Vinyl chloride was synthesized in the Justus von Liebig laboratory in 1835. Polyvinyl chloride was synthesized by Baumann in 1872. But it wasn't until the 1820s that a commercial product of polyvinyl chloride was produced in the United States, and it wasn't until the following 20 years that large-scale production began in Europe. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) has outstanding characteristics such as abundant raw materials (petroleum, limestone, coke, salt, and natural gas), mature manufacturing processes, low prices, and wide applications. It has become the world's second largest general-purpose resin after polyethylene resin, accounting for 29% of the world's total synthetic resin consumption. Polyvinyl chloride is easy to process and can be processed through methods such as molding, lamination, injection molding, extrusion molding, rolling, blow molding, etc. Polyvinyl chloride is primarily used in the production of plastic soft products such as synthetic leather, film, and wire sheaths. It can also be used in the production of plastic hard products such as boards, doors, windows, pipes, and valves.
